ABOUT MISS ZOT
Most importantly, I am a mom of two wonderful girls, ages 3 and 5, and a wife. Motherhood has deeply shaped how I see creativity, learning, and the value of hands-on experiences.
I am also an artist, with a degree focused on painting and ceramics. After having children and creating art and craft projects alongside them, I realized that not every family has the time, knowledge, or patience to guide young children through hands-on, often messy, creative work. Yet these early years are when children are naturally curious, motivated, and eager to explore through making.
Younger children thrive when art is taught through STEAM-based processes in a relaxed, supportive environment. By bringing Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math together in one class, children are encouraged to experiment, problem-solve, and express themselves creatively. Working with my hands again—especially through clay—reconnected me to my ceramic roots and inspired the foundation of my teaching philosophy.
How STEAM Is Integrated Into My Art Practice
-
Science: Exploring the atomic structure of clay and the chemistry of glazes
-
Technology: Learning mold-making processes and understanding manufacturing methods
-
Engineering: Designing and developing functional and creative products
-
Art: Creating both functional objects and decorative sculptures
-
Math: Applying concepts such as shrinkage, volume, proportion, and symmetry in design
Through my work, I aim to create meaningful, hands-on art experiences that nurture creativity, confidence, and curiosity—making STEAM accessible, engaging, and fun for young learners.

Parent/Educator,
Being able to bring my love of teaching kids and art together is such a joy! Thanks so much for letting me teach your child.
Sincerely,
Meagan Martin - Bernzott
